Hi Dentguy...I looked into this about 6 months ago. Sounds OK but there are a few things to think about.
1. How is your bars and rounds going to be differentiated from others inside the vault? I would suppose they keep them all lumped together until withdrawals are made...10-20 years down the road.
2. You are encouraged to make APMEX or whomever your precious metal supplier to this IRA. Can you be certain they will continue to have in stock the items you wish to purchase? ie. what if APMEX sold out of everything but 100 oz bars at at hefty premium.
3. Which leads to...What if times change between now and retirement, silver and gold go exponential and/or you no longer feel PMs are such good investments (it could happen you know).
4. I'm sure there will be some costs involved with the administration and storage of your PMs. Are you fully aware of these?
And a final thought: It is probably more cost effective to get a safety deposit box and fill it up...Hanglong
