Perhaps he finally realized that his actions could 'possibly' land him in a court room defending defending himself...

I checked this out with an atty two weeks ago. It is possible that a poster who relentlessly spews out explicit and misleading or unsubstantiated information about someone or a Company could easily have their day in court - trading on this type of activity can only hurt more.
