Your turkeys are safe with me. I do hunt them, but only where I am welcome. One word, however. Wild turkey has a taste that is out of this world. Beats the store-bought kind all hollow.
Last week, I was allowed to go hunting with my trusty .22 rifle, but shotguns were out for at least the next two weeks. I did see several turkeys, and some would have been a slam dunk with the shotgun, but with the .22, I will only take a head shot, so I have to be absolutely certain I can make the shot or I won't pull the trigger. On Friday afternoon, I finally got the shot I had been waiting for, and took a 15 pound Jake (a young male) at about 50 yards. He never knew what hit him, and the trkyhntr family will have some fine dining this Thanksgiving. My son in law also got one on Saturday, so we will eat his on Thanksgiving and mine at Christmas. I hate to freeze them, but I guess we will have to do so.
The deer in these parts are into the rut big time. I saw two nice bucks last week while hunting turks. One was a real wall hanger. They had no idea I was in the same universe. Prime consideration was being given to the does they were following.
Have you looked into the Gamo air rifles? I am certain you could make serious inroads on the Marmota monax population with one.
