As far as I know from what was posted here and elsewhere: He was hired to find the assets invovled in the case. After getting into it, he found Lanza had through the years with himself and his relatives bought and sold pieces of leases, some buying parts and selling others to each other and back again until it is like a nest of yarn.

A owns 30% of B which owns 30% of C which owns 30% of A, which I sold to D iin consideration of E with my son, who sold to my wife and key party in B, etc.etc.

Nathan relizing maybe over his head handling it alone hired a firm that was more qualified or specialized. Barrnett then figured why did he have to pay Nathan if he was not doing the work. Nathan deal getting a percentage of what he found, sued. That is the basis of the suit. IMHO
