Thanks for taking the time to post this. I am trying to get confirmation of this through Finra. It definitely sounds possible and wouldn't really surprise me the system faulty. I often looked at the data & it did really not make sense certain stocks were being shorted at all, seemed like financial suicide. I only have 2 questions.

1) Is there any possible way to look at the short data volume and come up with a general percentage that would likely be real shorts?

2) As to why the short percentage each day is not 100%? Is this because some market makers have a supply of all stocks they sell before they collect yours. My broker seems to use UBSS and PERT, not big MM's so most of my long sales could be shown as shorts. Wheras, a long seller whose broker uses AUTO, AUTO sells from their supply so technically doesn't count as a short?
