"Anyone know if..."

Richard McCreary, president and CEO of Marinette Marine, said that beginning next spring, the company will be able to recall about 180 employees laid off due to a shortage of work. The littoral combat ship contract award was initially planned for late summer.

"It secures the future for all of our employees going forward for many, many years," he said shortly after 9 p.m. Tuesday.

McCreary said Marinette Marine still needs to hash out the contract with the Navy, Lockheed Martin, suppliers and subcontractors by the end of the year.

"We are very hopefully by the end of the year we will have this signed, sealed and delivered," he said. "This is huge for our community and for our company and our nation."

U.S. Rep. Steve Kagen, D-Appleton, called congressional approval "the biggest Christmas gift possible" for Marinette.
