CCME - Have you started your new board yet at geoinvesting? The quicker you get that going, the better. I think a lot of people, myself included, will be more than willing to pay a monthly premium in order to get access to on-the-ground research, rather than have to constantly be on the defensive and rely on testimony from short sellers. You could use the proceeds to invest in more rigorous third party research in the space.
That's the way to play this. IMO, the disadvantage we face right now is that we don't have access to critical information in a timely manner. The shorts have that, the hedge funds have that, but those of us on the retail side don't have that, and we need that.
My sense is that the shorts are going to gain momentum here, particularly with an SEC investigation taking place, so we need a vehicle we can use to get out in front of the market in terms of identifying and verifying quality, i.e., to get access to rigorous on the ground DD in terms of independent channel checks, visits, SAT filings, etc. Then, in the coming months if the shorts hit a stock that we know from our own research to be quality (such as CCME), or if such a stock becomes collateral damage, we can buy in with confidence.
Alternatively, we can short the junk as a way to hedge overall risk exposure in the space.
