Factor in inflation and your actually losing value in your savings! A year ago, I took two thirds of my 457K and rolled it over to a self directed IRA. Best move I ever made. I occasionally email my sisters about gains I've made in precious metals. One of my sisters suprised me last week, by mentioning that she had liquidated all the stocks we recently inherited and was going to "put it in a CD"...I couldn't believe she would sell off stocks like Billiton, Chevron, and BP for all time low returns. If Bush estate tax cuts were not extended, I was going to have to liquidate as well (to lock in my exempt status this year for estate taxes) but I was going to plow it right back in to other lucrative investments.
