OT At that price, I would suggest a good pair of binoculars......they won't end up in the garage, have multiple uses, and take up less space. You really don't want to get into a telescope until you are sure the kid has a sincere intertest, you're ready to spend about $400 at a minimum, and then you get a reflector telescope (4 - 6 " in diameter) with a tripod or mount.
Merry Christmas and good viewing....oh at $150.00, you should be able to get a 12X60 or a 10X60 pair of binoculars....look on line and maybe find even larger at around 20X80MM. Neal
