Stocks do not go straight up. Shake out weak hands along the way. Also, MM'S making sure they do not get caught . After all they have to make a market and are taking risks along the way. There is also Profit taking. And, those buying and selling using technical analyis. If strong forces are in command the correctons or retracements will be less volatile.
