The brokers, funds, MMs, whoever is holding the Nakes Short Shares have to buy in to get real shares and maybe lose a lot of money.
The responsibility for your shares falls on your broker - he sold them to you. If these shares are NSS shares the broker has to go back to the MMs to get the certs to back the shares. The MM has to go to the market and buy real ones. Hence the short squeeze for the MMs.
As long as you have a valid broker accounts the problem is theirs not yours. Just document yourbuys/sells etc. in case there's a problem.
All of these people from the MMs to the brokers are insured BTW.
