Early 3.06GHz Hyperthreaded review.

http://babelfish.altavista.com/babelfish/urltrurl?lp=fr_en&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.x86-secret.com%2...

Note: the site is in French and translated by Babelfish.

Highlights:
- Huge HT performance gains in MP3 encoder (>25%!)
- No tests were shown with Hyperthreading that lost performance, except for Quake III when run using certain flags (not default)
- Can overclock to 3.33GHz with default voltage

Lowlights:
- Extremely poor performance with Hyperthreading under Win2k.
- Only certain chipsets support HT
- Minimal gains in most software with HT

Looks like Hyperthreading has delivered on making it so that applications do not lose performance. The testing suite was not comprehensive, though, so I'm sure some fanatical sites will find exceptions and make noise about it. But overall, this looks to greatly strengthen Intel's competitive lead. It sounds like the official release of the chip will be later this week.
