Actually there are (paraphrasing from "Cardiovascular consequences of sleep-disordered breathing: contribution of animal models to understanding of the human disease" dematteis et al., 2009) : studies have been carried out in the english bulldog (Hendricks, 1987), obese miniature pigs (Lonergan, 1998), spontaneously hypertensive rats (Carley et al. 1998, 200). Quoting directly from the paper: "Several of these models have proven useful for testing drugs to prevent obstructive and central apneas (Carley and Radulovacki 1999; Carley et al. 1998; Veasey et al. 1996, 1999, 2001)."
