Do you think perhaps that the 'sale price' may be set artifically low and that there is a chance that SEO and the buyer might have a side deal going?

That is, if a sale ever takes place. It miight be simpler to keep the company going to pay travel, hotel and salary expenses until it is bled dry and then the side deal happens anyway and the commons get nothing.
