yep, thats probably the thing to do....
on a spot & stalk hunt i would guess the shot would be 75 to 200 yds with the average about 125 yds
of course
you could get lucky depending on the way they do it - if you find some GOOD trails - you could set up an ambush & then you possibly could use the handgun
