Regarding your comment to TREND1: "Futures traders sometimes use a max stop loss of 8%."

My impression is that most successful options traders use ATR to size trades and set stop-loss levels (as well as entry levels). This makes the stop-loss automatically adaptable to market conditions. Check out the link below. It is one of many on the subject.
