Laser Energetics Inc got the patent (2 patents) for the laser pumped tunable laser. This is used in the JCSD. And these were issued just one month ago. So not going to expire soon as mentioned by you.

Also, the technology for the JCSD was been filed for patent by ITT, with Bob and Armstrong named as co-inventors. More specifically, the patent application by ITT specifically mentioned that the laser used is one produced from Laser Energetics Inc.
