Here is some APWR news that went under the radar

UT regents authorize $30 million lease for wind farms in Reagan County

The University of Texas System’ board of regents authorized a $30 million lease for a West Texas wind farm at its meeting this week.

Under the 10-year agreement, Spinning Star Energy LLC will build 150 wind turbines on 18,000 acres of UT System land in Reagan County.

“This not only benefits institutions in the UT and Texas A&M University systems, it benefits all of Texas,” Regent’s Chairman Colleen McHugh said.

Proceeds from the lease agreement will go to the Available University Fund for use by the UT System and Texas A&M University System.

At the same time, the UT System announced it cut energy use by 16 percent, resulting in savings of $196 million. The UT System exceeded its goal to reduce energy consumption by 10 to 15 percent by fiscal year 2011.

“This meaningful reduction in energy consumption demonstrates the System’s commitment to being a responsible leader in statewide energy conservation efforts and a conscientious manager of state assets,” said UT System Chancellor Francisco G. Cigarroa. “For every dollar saved in reduced utility costs, there is a dollar to be invested in the future of higher education in Texas.”
