You are forgetting the reality of the political situation. If a compromise of some sort cannot be fashioned during the lame duck session, the new republican house will be able to do nothing on its own. When the new congress convenes, the republicans in the house can pass whatever they want, but unless the even more solidly radical liberal democrats under reid in the senate agree, nothing will be done.
For the next two years, all the conservatives in the house can do is to block new legislation from becoming law -- they can enact no new laws by themselves. But hey -- that is far better than having the American People totally at the mercy of obama and friends' radical far left agenda.
There will be some compromises here and there, but hopefully the overall forecast for the next two years is gridlock.
