I’m a newbie to iHub and this board and I am astonished by the excitement and hopes manifested here over the prospects of HLNT’s Hydrogen Hybrid product. As a former aerospace engineer who worked with liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen every day for many years, the First Law of Thermodynamics and the Law of Entropy are engraved in my DNA. Granted, we are talking about gaseous hydrogen and oxygen at room temperature here, but the same laws still apply. To make a long story short, according to these “laws” of physics, HLNT’s WILDCAT booster system is a scam. I read all posts from 25900 to present, and found only 1 (#26019 by Ravendave) that had any discussion about the actual workability of the idea behind the Wildcat product.
The NASA doc Raven dave referenced, had to do with the addition of an existing source of hydrogen to the fuel of an internal combustion engine. All the statements it made about flame speed, reduced emissions, and thermal efficiency are true. What was never considered was the fact that in the Wildcat system (or any system depending on "in situ" generation of Hydrogen gas, a certain % of the HP output of the engine must be devoted to turning the generator which provides the electricity to run the process of electrolysis for turning water into H2 gas and O2 gas. This is HP which cannot be used to pull the load or do whatever work the engine is required to do. Since the purpose of the H2 is to be fed back to the engine as fuel, the above referenced laws of physics require that the final output of the engine will be lower than than if the engine was never modified. The only articles on the internet praising this technology are by the people selling these systems, kits, or books on how to convert your car to run on “GAS4FREE” or “WATER4GAS” etc. Articles by independent sources (not selling this stuff) say, “Don’t waste your money.”
One of the arguments put out by the promoters of these systems is that the big auto makers like GM, FORD, TOYOTA, etc. (and the big oil companies) are against use of Hydrogen Hybrid because “they have invested so much money in their existing types of engines”. Nonsense. Look at how fast they are switching over to electric hybrid cars. The reason these big auto makers have not switched is because the so-called “techonolgy” has very little or no gain in efficiency, and has other problems such as the corrosive effect of the steam created when the H2 gas combusts in the cylinder of the engine etc. No doubt, with the euphoria exhibited on this board, and the ability of the management to create the illusion of big time acceptance by associating it with “JOHN DEER” when John Deer’s only connection is to allow (or lease?) it’s test facility to HLNT for a demonstration test, the price of HLNT will probably rise in the near future.
I truly hope that the Wildcat has some unique feature such as special catalyst that enables it to work much better than the H2 Hybrid systems developed by others. But I have not found anything yet that shows such a feature exists. I have an open mind and am eager for to hear any inputs based on fact and science.
