How does Ken saying "you might be pleasantly surprised" mean it must not be that bad?

That's like saying after hours on September 10th, 2001 "Airlines have been shorted INCREDIBLE amounts this past week! Soon, the shorts will have to cover their positions... you might be pleasantly surprised!!!" and expecting that, "Hey, it must not be that bad"
