Not to that extent, but more than normal. I traded AVL (AVARF) via an Etrade Global account, and while fees are higher ($20/trade), I didn't have anything like you mention. I'm currently out of AVL and will buy AVARF instead if I choose to get back in. It was too much bother transfering money to a global account, changing to local currency (fee of course), and then paying higher fee for each trade.
