Just think what the last 50 years could have done if all that manpower, lives, time, and tax payer dollars our government has wasted, and all the in fighting that goes on so as to sponsor the lobbyist, rich, industrialist, financiers, and factions they choose do their bidding for, for money, contributions, gifts, promises, and votes, as opposed to doing the right things and had focused more on strengthening our nation, and all its people equally. 911 should have never happened, but given what has been going on for decades, and with the CIA, and the FBI, and The Dept of Immigration has no idea what individuals are in this country or how they may have entered should have come as no surprise. We did get and ear full of Monica Lewinsky though, we all know about that dress of hers, they should have been on some Soap as opposed to serving in govt.
The Taliban should have paid dearly, and could have but didn't. We'll never get Bin Laden, and chances are he is living it up in any one of his families palaces in Saudi Arabia, and if he were our government would do nothing about it. After 9 years we should close the book on it. Whats was gained in Iraq?, maybe more the gain will be for Iran?, it certainly gained alot for all the corporations, and companies that were awarded govt contracts. To little to late, and the cost has been thousands more of American lives, and little to show for little has changed. The lies that were told about Vietnam, and the reasoning for flooding that country with American troops was no different than the lies told about WMD. 9 years later and the real WMD were IEDs.

Our leaders should lead by example, with honor, and integrity, but most don't. Andrew Jackson set a fine example for blatantly opposing the Supreme Court ruling regarding the Cherokee, and even up to the time when Anita Hill testified against Clarence Thomas, the same laws that we all have to live under didn't apply to the members of Congress. The Supreme Court did nothing about it. The politicians to a larger degree are self serving and do what they want, and the Supreme Court today hears whatever cases they want, and it helps if a person knows someone who knows someone who can bend a few ears. Its a mockery of the way things are suppose to work. They can bend the laws the same way they can have they can bend ears.
