Authorized shares are the number of shares the number the company is authorized to actually put into the float and is usually more than the outstanding shares,those being traded and I think restricted.The problem with pinkies sometimes is management can sell authorized into the float without prior notice if they are trying to make some money and the stock had a good pr that day.
