this is either 'irrational exuberance' or someone needs to clarify my understanding of what dna witness is all about. i thought an expensive dna witness test by dnap on crime scene dna sample(s) would give law enforcement direction on where to focus their leads. in other words, don't waste time and money on segments of the population that would unlikely be the culprit. on the other hand, it seems several posters believe that routine dna testing that can be done by any crime lab to match or rule out any suspects' involvement would have to be handled by dnap at a price comparable to dna witness tests. i don't believe these 4000 or so cheek swabs referred to in the quote below would have anything to do with making dnap boatloads of money. on the other hand, i hope that law enforcement did make use of dna witness; but, to make the leap that thousands of cheek swabs(that can be handled by any crime lab) would be a huge source of revenue for dnap seems rather ludicrous. i would think that once the alleged culprits' daughter voiced her suspicions and donated a dna sample to try for a match with her fathers' dna, that dnap wouldn't necesarily be involved in that either. if dna witness had been used earlier, it would simply mean that they might not spend money to try for a match if a black woman had the same suspicion about her father, knowing from dna witness that they were more likely to be looking for a caucasion. in other words, i don't believe, though "more than 4,000 DNA swabs were taken in the last 11 months" would have anything to do with "the potential sales for DNAP test kits...for each crime investigation...!".

do i not understand the actual purpose of the dna witness and the dnap test kits? am i wrong in thinking that the 4000 cheek swabs are simply to confirm a match of anyone with the crime scene dna, as opposed to simply using dna witness once in order to get an idea of what segment of the population to look for?

On the other hand, the following quote from the article I just posted is quite encouraging as to the potential sales for DNAP test kits...for each crime investigation...!

"In addition, more than 4,000 DNA swabs were taken in the last 11 months."

And that's just ONE case...!

4,000 DNA swabs for one case...Whew!

That could add up very nicely for DNAP if they tested every swab...times...1,000's of cases globally
