Bull, I must apologize for a bit of arrogance verging on ignorance, however you want to view it. Who am I to impose my ideals regarding how passion should or should not be experienced and/or represented.
There is an academic painter, Bouguereau, who is a fantastic painter and who does have some work that moves me but in general, while extremely talented and VERY different from Parrish, elicits a similar response in me. Why does his manifestation of passion for the female or a female not move me in a visceral way? If I tried to explain, this could turn into one of my infamous tomes. And there are many who would differ and you may be one of them.
If he moves you, if his vision of an ideal moves you, then you share something and I think that's pretty important. How dare I question the validity of your aesthetic preference and judgement. I apologize. I certainly do see value in his work. It simply does not speak to me as it does you - but I do see what you see. I have many friends who collect his work also. The man could paint.
