He's entitled to his opinions but the success of the iPod is proving many to be just plain wrong.

costs too much? says who? the millions of iPod owners? the stores that can't keep them in stock?

too few features? he must be one of these guys that has a camera/phone/pager/gps/pda/taser all in one gadget. Not enough features for him but again, that army of iPodders actually listening to their music stands in stark contrast to the few knob twiddlers adjusting the vbr of their Ogg Vorbis player and changing the contrast on the equalizer idiot lights screen.

Anytime someone says "Audiophile" and lossy codecs loses some credibility with me. Just store the stuff in .aiff or wav if you want top quality.

He's another one of these guys that counts buttons and whistles, divides by the price, and uses that constant to determine value. Consumer Reports does the same thing. Style, coolness factor, ease of use, quality of construction; these mean nothing. Price! Number of Features! that's what counts.

My wife the real estate agent encounters these types all the time. They measure the rooms and get price/sq. ft. Then they wonder why house A costs more than house B even though B is bigger. It doesn't matter that house A is on a quiet cul-de-sac or in a better school district or doesn't have a junkyard next door or that it has a better design.

I guarantee you he's also a pc user. Probably built it himself using the cheapest of parts. Loves to fiddle with it. Overclock the RAM chips, put in a new fan, add some LED lights to the case, set up a 10 disk RAID array for his comic book database and Pokemon card collection.

Nothing wrong with that; just don't be telling people it's the only way to be. If you can get them to turn off their iPods long enough to listen.

I shot Mark Knopfler off his horse.
