I really wouldn't want to rely them to come up with shares to cover their shorting at some time in the future...

It's real simple to me. You buy your shares on or before the 12th to guarantee that the shares will be settled into your account and you get the dividend or rely on the system to force them to purchase shares at a later date and give them to you.

FYI...Beer and 80's/90's club/industrial YouTube music really go together :)..
