MM's only do what we tell them to... if I put in a sell order, my broker (Zecco) routes through NITE (or ETMM if I was an eTrade user)... so I put a seller order in, and NITE will either hit the bid for me, or sit on the ask for me (depending on what I put my sell order in at)...

Yea, MM's drop down like in your example, but that's because someone has "told" them to via putting in an order...

Many examples out there, but look at HLNT on 9/6/10... for the believers of gaps, they would have totally missed out on a HUGE move b/c they were "waiting for the gap to close", which never happened... as you said, there is NO magnet that pulls the price down...
