Facebook apologizes for worst outage in 4 years

IDG News Service - Many Facebook users were unable to access the social networking site for up to two and a half hours on Thursday, the worst outage the website has had in over four years, Facebook said in a posting.

The problems were traced back to an innocent post made on IHub last night.

Today Facebook began noticing unusually high traffic with friend requests for the poster mentioned on the Ihub message board.

Shortly thereafter the site shut down so that Facebook could edit the friend requests to women under 35 based on their profiles.

When the site came back on line several Facebook members posted their dismay.

Commenting on his wall cbfromli said, "Damn George gets all the chicks and I can't get a lousy beer."

A Facebbook member going by the alias of Outlawbabe posted on her wall, "Get you own damn beer."
