My speculation is based on an upcoming dividend announcement. The idea of buying back up to 3 mil shares and then announcing a dividend will crush the shorts and help send the stock to new highs.

In the future nobody would hold it against them to use those same 3 mil shares if they wanted to do an aquisition and it is the best possible investment they could make at this point in time.

Buy 3 mil shares now at less than $10, announce a dividend to send the stock higher and the shorts packing, then use the shares as part of an aquisition in the future when they are worth $30 or more. I believe they are thinking along those lines and see the opportunity they have here to turn that $30 million into $90 million.

All the while they will cement the image of being a company that puts shareholder value first, but in reality it would have been an opportunity to good to pass up.
