The PR release says: the solution has been adopted by a leading train operator, as part of its ticket checking process. A ticket code is printed on paper tickets which are then scanned and transferred by the NeoReader Application for processing by the ticket checking application.
TrenItalia is the train system in Italy, but I can't find statistics on how many riders there are. I was in Italy last month and I know first hand TrenItalia was the only option to communte between big cities, although I rode 2 different types of trains (edit: TRN Autres and Eurostar AV). Not sure if TrenItalia is the operator or if the seperate trains are operated by dfferent companies.
