MDF thoughts. I reviewed the financials for CNU, which is a competitor in Florida and a pretty close comparison for MDF. They had a good qtr, increasing top line by 5% but a big increase of 271% in operating profits. They had a net of .05 vs a loss of .01 last yr qtr.
Two significant comments. They increased topline revs which likely came from Medicare Advantage enrollment increases. They also probably benefitted from increases in reimbursement rates from Medicare. Because expenses due to flu were low, expenses stayed relatively flat from the previous qtr and that provided for the big increase in net.
Humana reported systemwide they had 15% increase in enrollment over the whole year in Medicare Advantage and 8-10% increase in individual per patient fees. If MDF is able to come up with similar numbers to CNU, they should have a great qtr. They are building up for the HMO launch so that will likely raise SG&A but I am hoping that topline revs increase enough to compensate for that. Earnings won't be out for 2 months so just ruminating.
