WCFC: THE BEGINING « Smyle-Fu: MMA Comedy Blog

http://smylefu.wordpress.com/2010/08/25/wcfc-the-begining/

Is your Kung-Fu better than my Kung-Fu? Because last time I checked I totally kicked your teammates ass.

That’s right folks GYM vs. GYM is what’s happening in the next WCFC event. Horns Elite, Riven, X-treme Combat, Body Dynamics, One Hit MMA, IND, Absolute, Southern Utah Muay Thai and some gym with a Ying-Yang triangle Symbol (seriously no offense, but what’s the name of it) will all send their warriors to compete. Who will be victorious and claim to be the best gym in Utah? Only God knows… and me. Yeah I can predict the future.

Lets get to know the Gyms and the fighters that will be competing for them. (Note: I apologize for any disrespect and this is all meant in fun)

HORNS ELITE- Horns elite is an MMA and Crossfit gym that caters to all levels (kids or adults). First off the gym is owned by one of the best Martial Arts fighters in the world, Jeremy ‘FRIGGIN” Horn. He’s trained UFC fighters like Jens Pulver, Rich Franklin and Matt Hughes. One of his star pupils, Demarques Johnson, was a finalist on the Ultimate Fighter. They are located at 8681 south 700 west in Sandy, Utah.

FIGHTERS- David Castillo, David Putvin, Ken Brecke, Georgy “Alan” Kaytukov

THE RIVEN ACADEMY- Is it the Academy, Riven or Riven Academy? Seriously I don’t know, but what I do know is that it’s a pretty damn good gym. Quick story I went there one day and took the Renegade class and almost died, but it felt good. The End. The gym has numerous classes such as MMA, Boxing, Kick Boxing, Muy Thai, Pilates, Yoga and like I mentioned before the Renegade class (Lorenzo Lamas eat your heart out). Some of the best fighters from Utah train here such as Steven Siler, Josh Burkman and even the Ultimate Fighter season 11 winner, COURT MCGEE. (Notice how I capitalized his name, why? because he’s bad ass like that). They are located at 1640 S. State St. in Orem, Ut.

FIGHTERS- Steven Siler, Danny Gunn, Tom Hester, Kiki Albino, Josh Bateman, Amberlee Watkins

X-TREME COMBAT- Offering Brazilian jiu-jitsu, Boxing, MMA, Karate and Kung-Fu Xtreme combat is the primer MMA gym in southern Utah. With two locations in both Richfield and Beaver you can expect many great fighters from the south to be traveling up north to make a name for the gym. They are located at 36 N. Main St in Richfield, UT and 2080 S. 528 W. in Beaver, UT.

FIGHTERS- John Walser

BODY DYNAMICS- Again we come to another “GYM” that’s not really a “GYM”. It’s a workout routine that provides physical therapy, fitness and health and wellness. I wonder if there’s a gym named “Tae Bo”?

FIGHTERS- James Francis

ONE HIT MMA- Specializing in ground (Jiu-Jitsu), stand up (Kickboxing) and all around (MMA) One Hit is one of the best gyms in Northern Utah. Their coach, Aldo Oreggio, is a two-time ISKA champ with a 29-3 record. One of their superstar students is none other than the man they call “Mata Ele”, Jordan Smith. They are located at 1 Freeport Center Bldg A15 in Clearfield, Ut.

FIGHTERS- Russel Evans, Steven Shimkus, Manuel Soto, Crystal Olsen, Matt Buck

INDEPENDANT- These fighters are going solo, meaning that they are either training in their garage, basement, a workout gym or practicing on the neighborhood bully. In other words it will be extremely tough for them.

FIGHTERS- Parker Newman, Tommy Algire

ABSOLUTE MMA- The Little Gym with the Big Talent as some would say. Absolute is absolutely a great gym to check out. A lot of well-known fighters in Utah train here including the ever popular Steven “Razor” Sharp. With a coach like Rob Handley you are bound to compete whether it be in MMA, BJJ, Wrestling, Judo or even Kettlebell lifting Rob is the man to put you into shape. Question is will his fighters be ready? I think they will my friends.

FIGHTERS Terrell Sanders, Rick Bax, Amberlee Watkins

WICKED WAYS MUAY THAI- Information was not available.

FIGHTERS- Cecile Jaskawiak

SOUTHERN UTAH MUAY THAI- Southern Utah’s only Muay Thai insturction endorsed by Master Toddy. It’s located at 473 N. 200 W. in Cedar City, UT.

FIGHTERS- Karly Swider

GYM WITH YIN-YANG TRIANGLE SYMBOL- I have no idea who they are, but they do have a cool symbol so I’ll make up a story. During the uprising of the Wu-Tang dynasty a Muay-Thai/Kickboxing legend by the name of Wung Chi destroyed the forces of the corrupted Dragon Lord Billy Idol. Many years and generations have passed and his teachings were passed down to his children and their children and so forth. Only the few were trained in the arts of GYM WITH YIN-YANG TRIANGLE kickboxing/muay-thai thing.

FIGHTERS-Jenny Raff (canceled)

WCFC is making Utah MMA History by holding the first ever sanctioned amateur event in the great city of Ogden, UT. In case you are not familiar with Ogden allow me to give you some details… IT’S FRIGGIN’ HAUNTED. That’s right not only will this fight cater to living beings, but also to ghosts. There’s a total of 13 fights, 2 fights consist of Professionals and the rest consist of amatures just getting wet behind the ears… with blood (You like what I did there? PIMP).

MAIN EVENT

DAVID CASTILLO (8-2) vs. JOHN WALSER (7-3)

With back to back loses, to Sharp and Corey, Castillo pulled a rabbit out of the hat by submitting Ty Hamblin, via Triangle Choke, in the first round in the last WCFC event. Like a phoenix from the ashes, Castillo is reborned and ready to go one more time. What was a back and forth fight suddenly turned in the favor of Walser when he defeated Jamie Anton in the second round, via rear naked choke. This fight can be an amazing battle. Walser is a guy that never gives up and is able to take pretty hard hits. I’m just hoping his cardio is up to par especially against a fighter like Castillo. Expect this to either go the distance or a second round victory for Castillo.

PRO FIGHTS

STEVEN ”SUPER” SILAR (15-8) vs. JAMES “SCRAPPY” FRANCIS (6-8)

He won a house gosh darn it. Silar is an amazing athlete with notable wins over Olly Bradstreet, Enoch Wilson and of course giving Travis Marx his first loss on national television. His fight with Enoch Wilson is one of the best I seen in the local scene, such grace and such determination of both athletes that it makes you wonder how has Silar evolved? His last fight was with Wilson in November while his opponent had a total of four fights, including knocking out the Bird Dog, since then. This will in fact be Francis, not Silar’s, toughest challenge ever. If Francis is able to avoid fighting Silar on the ground and did what he did with Bird Dog in his last fight, he might have a chance of winning.

Both Main Fights should be a blast none the less, but what this event is really about is the Amatures. Fighting green and mean these fighters need to prove themselves not to just their coaches, but to the fans. Whether they win or lose they have proven to us that they indeed have the determination and the discipline to do something that many of us wish we could do and that is to follow a dream and make it come true. To these young fighters I tip my hat in appreciation and thank them for their response to my questions.

AMATURE FIGHTS

DAVID PUTVIN vs. RUSSELL EVANS

What do you do with a man who’s been training since he was 5, wrestled in highschool and got his first Win in his first Fight? Well if you’re name was Russell Evans then you have no choice but to fight him. “How long are the rounds? If they are at least 3 minutes I’m predicting a submission finish in the first.” David is their for the quick win, but will Evans allow the prediction to come true? Well here’s my prediction “FIGHT OF THE NIGHT” enough said.

NOTE: Was unable to contact Russell Evans

PETER NEWMAN vs. TOM HESTER

You remember Rocky 4? Remember when Drago was training in some elite training facility with fancy gear and Rocky was training at some abandon bar with primitive gear? That’s what this fight will be. Parker “Rocky” Newman vs. Tom “Drago” Hester. Hester is training with some top notch fighters at the Academy, but Parker isn’t going to let that stop him. “I don’t have any training in martial arts, but I will be ready to go in there and bang”. Unlike his evil counterpart from the movie, Tom isn’t out there to BREAK Parker. “All I have to say is that it takes heart to step in the cage and fight someone who has trained a lot longer… Parker shouldn’t be expecting any special treament, because I fight to win. All I ask from him is to bring everything he’s got, because I’m coming in with guns a blazing”.

TERRELL SANDERS vs. STEVEN SHIMKUS

The fight was switched from an MMA match to a Kickboxing match, but this does not discourage Terrell Sanders from getting a “W” in his first amature match. “I’m going to go out there stick to the game plan and fight my heart out. I had an amazing training camp (Absolute). I will win at the end.” With words like that I am hoping for one hell of a kickboxing match.

NOTE: Was unable to contact Steven Shimkus

GEORGY ”ALAN” KAYTUKOV vs. MANUEL SOTO

Determination, Discipline, Dream the 3D’s that can make a man a legend in the sport of Mixed Martial Arts and Manuel is no exception. “No matter how exhausted I get or how many times I am beaten nothing feels better than when I am focused on my training or learning new techniques in class. I love this sport and will continue to train for as long as my body allows me too.” Spoken like a true cage warrior and I greatly have a lot of respect for this man. With a background in over 4 martial arts, he will be taking on Georgy Kaytukov in his first kickboxing match.

NOTE: Was unable to contact Georgy Kaytukov

CRYSTAL OLSEN vs. CECILE JASKAWIAK

GIRL FIGHT!!! On one side you have Crystal Olsen training under One Hit MMA and on the other side you got the girl who replied with “Hello, First who are you? And second, if you have any questions please contact my trainer at the Academy. Thank you.” With attitude like that I can’t help but root for Crystal Olsen. I’m just a simple man folks, a simple man with feelings and my feelings is expressing what I feel and what I feel is a win for Crystal Olsen.

NOTE: Was unable to contact Crystal, but I bet she would have answered my questions

AMBERLEE WATKINS vs. CARLY SWIDER

Taking the fight at short notice Amberlee is ready to go up against the 6 ft. amazon Carly Swider. The female David vs. the female Goliath in an epic battle of endurance. “I’m just planning on using my power to take the girl down! I’ve definitely got some solid hits and kicks, and we will see where the fight goes from there!” said Amberlee about her opponent. Amberlee is replacing Jenny Raff due to injury (I’m thinking it has something to due with the mystical powers of the YIN-YANG TRIANGLE GYM.)

NOTE: Was unable to contact Carly Swider

MATT BUCK vs. RICK BAX

NOTE: Was unable to contact both Matt Buck and Rick Bax

JOSH BATEMAN vs. TBA

NOTE: Was unable to contact Josh Bateman

TOMMY ALGIRE vs. TBA

FOLLOWING PEOPLE I SENT A MESSAGE, BUT NEVER RESPONDED

KEN BRECKE, DANNY GUNN and KIKI ALBINO

That’s it folks the line up to the upcoming event for WCFC: THE BEGINING at the Scrapyard in Ogden, Ut. The tickets are $25 and all the proceeds will go into my Swiss bank account (just kidding). We heard from all the fighters minus the ones I couldn’t get a hold of, who didn’t response and who answered my questions with questions. Hope to see you there and remember when life knocks you out just Smyle-Fu.
