Just some thoughts...

I am a data analyst for a major hospital system directly related to hospital revenue cycle. The big buzz phrase today is "Accountable Care Organizations" ACOs are encouraged financially by obamacare thru enhanced Medicare payments for physicians that participate in such an organization. Essentially, an ACO stipulates that there is some oversight of patient care thru all phases in every episode of care. That is, if you were to break your leg, your primary care physician oversees and communicates with the ec doc, the surgeon, the therapist...etc. Healthcare organizations want to be the keeper of the WHOLE process but fact is you may go to one systems ER, and get your therapy at a private source not affiliated with the ER hospital. So, that leaves it to the insurance carrier, the common thread between all services, they would know where you were, what services rendered.. etc.. BUT... people change insurance companies... Yikes, now the only keeper of the continuum of care is the patient. That's where I believe the medflash concept has value. If patients have a way to maintain all records over their lifetime then they become the source os care history that medicare is interested in. So the medflash in concept makes more sense today than ever and that's why I am in. Sorry for the long message, just wanted to share. Good luck to all.
