I'm not sure of all the reasons Sam's Club and BJ's have for doing this type of in-store demonstration/promotional sales for new products, but I am sure of the reasons for another store (not mentioned in the CC) has for doing the exact same thing. Costco does the same things in their stores, and they use it to #1 build an awareness for potential new product listings, and #2 gauge the potential sales which the product could achieve if it were to be a candidate for permanent store listing.

I'm not insuinating that is the reasons for Sam's and BJ's interest in this type of sales stradegy, but the possibility does exist that this a way for them to determine whether or not a product placement would be feasible for them and the supplier without any type of contractual agreement.
