That's questionable isn't it?. I believe they truly were seen as such in WW2?. After WW2 the draft was nothing more than bodies, and sent to fight in unjustifiable wars. The politicians can put any spin on it they want, but it is what it is, and the fallen or those who took heroic actions, and made it back, and received medals appeared to be more like a formality. But those who answered the call and served with distinction did their duty, and all they had to cling to was the hope that they were doing the right things in face of it all. They are our heroes they did what they believed was the right thing to do, they put themselves in the service of this nation. It the politicians that have to answer for it.

The politicians chose not to listen to its people. We took over from where the French left off, and they to would not listen to the people whose country it was when they were asked to leave. Rubber plants were a real resource for tire manufacturers, among a variety of other things. We created a war when there was no war, the people of Vietnam had their skirmishes, and had been fighting among themselves for a thousand years. They were right to ask the French to leave. They were controlling those people like the hierarchy of the old coal mines did to their workers. When payday came around the workers who risked their very lives owed the company money. Working conditions were deplorable.

I remember watching a documentary where one or two who refused the Congressional Medal from serving in Vietnam. They revealed their reasons.

We had a moment in time after WW2 to grow into a nation like no other. We could have become a beacon of hope. Eisenhower wanted to build more schools not more weapons. It was this he warned us about.

Afghanistan was our call to duty, and look how it was handled, and again in a country we did not belong in (Iraq), a war there with us did not exist. We had our noses in that country to when the Russians were fighting against them. Its fair to say our government brought their problems to our shores, and we got caught with our pants down. Its also fair to say our government was responsible for this as well. They were to busy playing Peyton Place.
