It's all about a thousand feet down just lingering.

I read that story some couple days ago.. Heard Rush parroting the same idea.

I was watching the live feeds from BP quite often and can tell you they were pumping the shit out of the dispersant into the gusher. The motive there was to keep the bulk of the oil from ever reaching the surface.
Now alot of me knows that the gulf can absorb a larger amount of oil and be just fine. It's not like this leak will crack the globe in half and we plummet into the sun. The earth will be just fine.
My questions are the near term effects to our food supply. What are the results of letting the fish breathe in the complex carbons?.. Is the result an increased number of cancer deaths?.. Dunno.. I have to imagine the answer is yes, but to what degree I do not know.
Time will tell, but one would be wise to monitor the species of fish one consumes.. Sticking to farm bred species would be wise for the foreseeable future.
