Why did the Board (with shareholder vote) approve an increase in the authorized shares of Ariad?

Why does one increase authorized shares in the first place? HINT: future financings.

Further, I never said one was definitely coming. I am speculating that one is coming based on current price and the fact that most small cap biotechs have been raising money any chance they get. And, like I said, Harvey doesn't seem too eager to partner '534 since he hasn't discussed it at length on a conference call in over a year.
