There shouldn't be any problem placing XDR chips on FB-DIMMs. The fact that XDR is point-to-point is not a limitation here. I suppose it will depend on added performance vs. added cost.

What added performance do you think XDR could provide? Seems to me the DRAM performance will be dictated by the serial bus.

Note that all AMBs and FB-DIMMs are being designed for DDR2 with an upgrade to DDR3. The objective is to use commodity DRAMs.

I wonder when Samsung will put up an XDR data sheet? Considering it’s in mass production you’d think there’d be one by now. (Toshiba has one, but some key parameters have yet to be characterized).
