Power4 is currently .18u Cu SOI, and the 128MB L3 is only available on the MCM (available on the p670 and p690 systems, as opposed to the p630 machines that were being compared in the article), but your point is well taken. Given similarly configured machines, Itanium 2 can outperform the Power4, both in price, and in performance. I'd love to see Madison against IBM's .13u Power4 chips due out next year.
