More from the HHS Secretary in July:

Today HHS Secretary Tommy G. Thompson released the first outline of a 10-year plan to build a national electronic health information infrastructure in the United States. The report, "The Decade of Health Information Technology: Delivering Consumer-centric and Information-Rich Health Care," lays out the broad steps needed to achieve always-current, always-available electronic health records (EHR) for Americans. This responds to the call by President Bush this year to achieve EHRs for most Americans within a decade.

It is obvious to me that this will be big and will develop a whole new industry. It is truly amazing that in our age of computer technology the health industry is still using sticky notes.

Essentially, the health care industry is a bunch of ISLANDS WITHOUT BRIDGES. Many individual health clinics and doctors are computerized but maintain proprietary control. Even within clinics doctors do not often share ALL information. In some situations I believe that many doctors consider their records to be "intellectual property" and have the release of that information tied to revenue production.

Given the difficulty of selling FLCR's core product to individuals, (no one believes that they will ever need it), I think that FLCR should move away from individual marketing methods and work directly with insurance companies, health groups, hospitals and clinics.

I believe that Trent's strategy is to access individuals from the Booster and ENC programs so that they can eventually direct market the core product. I agree with this thinking but feel it will take some time to accomplish that strategy. The institution approach may be faster.

I noticed that recently GE is now advertizing Medical Records Technology on TV.

There is NO QUESTION that this is coming.... the format and methods are yet to be determined.
