yes but you dont get the car until you have the check for the dealer from the credit union. you dont drive home unless you can either prove to the dearship that you are credit worthy and take their loan or have a check in your hands
so no loan no car

i would not go out and buy a company and then put a down payment on it unless i was 300% sure i had the money to complete the transaction
no matter how depressed the price the company is selling for.
