US patents and patent applications cover 'ideas' and not 'technology'.



Have you actually READ a patent application? If you did, you would see they are much like a scientific paper. A good application covers the background of the problem solved, a history of prior art, the technology for the current solution, how the current technology advances the industry. A good patent application makes the reader think they know a lot about the invention, but would have difficulty duplicating it from the patent paperwork only.

A patent application covers BOTH the ideas AND the technology. If a patent only covers the ideas, how would one know if the patent was being infringed? The only winners would be the lawyers involved in the endless litigation.
