'Dreams' to hit screens:

Academy Award-nominated documentarian Marshall Curry's Racing Dreams will open Friday at the IFC Center in New York (and July 23 in Los Angeles). The film follows Annabeth Barnes, 11; Josh Hobson, 12, and Brandon Warren, 13, competing for the World Karting Association championship in hopes of a springboard to NASCAR.

"People have told me the film changed their view of racing and, more important, of race fans," Curry says. "There's certainly a value in stepping outside of New York or L.A. for about 90 minutes and getting to know a part of America that's rarely examined by documentaries."
