I worked in the produce business 30 years ago and know more than a little about selling bananas. They don't sell when they're green and they don't sell when they get brown speckles. They sell a lot when they're yellow with green tips. this co. has a packaging film that can control vegetable respiration to maximize freshness, and it's use can evidently be extended to control the respiration/ripening of bananas. they claim to be able to extend the shelf life at optimal color for 2-5 extra days. Chiquita is going to market this year with the film technology, and they bought nearly 500K shares at 7.20 not too long ago
Anybody who knows anything about farming knows that sometimes when the soil is right for planting it rains and it gets too wet to plant. The window for planting is narrow and yields suffer and drying costs rise if you plant late. Landac has a temperature sensitive polymer coating that remains water impermeable until the soil temperature is right. You can plant much earlier without getting spotty uneven germination. Putting 1/4 to 1/3 of your acreage in early, even if seed is more costly, can increase yields and decrease drying costs in any year without optimal growing conditions. this segment is just getting going.
