Because the FBI/DOJ are seeking information from M&M that they feel might be helpful to the case overall. They're giving M&M time to think about what they are facing, and that is, a prison term.

The Courts have always looked favorably on situations where the defendant has cooperated with the Feds.

Pretty simple process.
