Topps Markets Reneges on Pension Plans



Tops Markets LLC, Williamsville, N.Y., purchased substantially all Penn Traffic assets but declined to assume the pension plans.





If I remember correctly, earlier news reports stated that Topps would be continuing the pension plans. That is one of the reasons the Topps plan won widespread support (especially with the Unions) and eventually approval, over the Choppers and the Penn Employees offers.

Surprise, surprise.

Then again, news reports are not always accurate.
