At least from Galveston all the way down to Browsville beaches are oil free for now, hurricane season loomth . The only thing we deal with on an annual basis is a great abundance of the Sargassum weed which I understand originates in the Sargasso Sea of the North Central Atlantic. Interesting how Corpus Christi is only a couple hundred or so miles from the oil disaster and yet we get none of it but yet we are inundated by a fauna that travels thousands of miles to our beaches. Unlike the oil the weed is very beneficial to the preservation of our beaches and dunes given that these dunes are a line of defense for Corpus Christi against storm surges and after all the vehicles drive over it(Padre Island is still one of only a couple of beaches one can still drive on) it makes for great reinforcing against erosion.
Cruising Padre Island is a great place to get blasted more to do than in Harlingen which is just an interchange to Mexico.
