Essentially all commercial soybean seed in the US has the Roundup Ready gene. The economic impetus for growers to move from a RR1-based product to RR2Y is that MON is incorporating the RR2Y traits—and only those traits—in the latest soybean germplasm varieties. Hence, a grower’s decision to try RR2Y is not directly related to the degree of weed resistance to Roundup.

To date, weed resistance to Roundup is more of a problem with cotton than it is with soy, but it could become a bigger problem with soy in the next few years. However, even if that should happen, the premise for the RR2Y product line is not impaired for the reason mentioned above.
